The invasion of the Poland
The Germany had set the invasion of Poland at the 1St September 1939. Two days later, Britain and the France officially declared war on the Germany which has not respected its commitments. The Japan and the Italy have not responded immediately. The German, very strong, army took only three weeks to conquer the Poland. As expected, its territory was divided between the Germany and the Soviet Union.
The invasion of Europe
The Allies are still camped on their positions, preferring to defend the strong and strategic points and take the time to rearm. Having not seen the war come as quickly as Hitler has prepared, the allied countries had a weaker army. They still vainly attempted a blockade that would have forced Germany to lay down their arms. In April 1940, the German army occupied the Norway and the Denmark. On may 10, 1940, these armies invaded the Netherlands, the Belgium and the Luxembourg. The Germans also managed a breakthrough in the french front. On May 14, the Netherlands laid down the weapons. On 28 may, the British forces in Belgium were encircled. The Belgian army capitulated. The leadership of the French army lacked cohesion, did not react quickly enough and did not attack strong enough. Finally, the France signed the armistice with Germany on 22 June and Italy on June 24.Great Britain was alone in front of the invader. The Germans wanted to land on British soil and launched numerous air attacks by shelling cities. The morale of the British population was at its lowest. London was also bombed every night between 7 September 1940 and January 1941. The city resisted and the British army was holding the German invasion.
The German support to Italian troops
The Italian armies had problems in the Mediterranean. The German troops went to help them in April 1940, which caused the invasion of the Greece and Yugoslavia.
The globalization of the conflict
Failing to invade British territory, the Germans began to cut off by controlling the Atlantic. This decision caused a first rapprochement between the United Kingdom and the United States. Through the Lend-lease Act, London could equip themselves to credit to the United States. The American armies were not yet actively involved in the war. Always in 1941, June 22, German troops broke the Soviet-German pact by invading the Soviet Union. The nazi party launched the invasion to directly attack the Communists, extend the expansion to the East and down the only ally to which Britain could turn.
The invasion of the USSR
On December 3, 1941, German troops reached Moscow, but the USSR was still not falling apart. The Germans were slowed by mud, the cold and the many partisan Russian attacking troops from the rear.
